If you live and breathe elevators like we do here at CJA, you can imagine our excitement when we get to be a partner in movies and television shows. Because of our reputation in the elevator industry we get many calls for elevator props in movies. The movies shown to the right are just a few of the ones with CJA components.

When we’re asked to provide components for projects, time is always of the essence. Usually, dummy components are provided within 3-5 days. We’re able to manufacture them quickly because usually the only electrical equipment required are light bulbs to illuminate the call buttons. Did you know that someone actually trips these lights by hand? Many doors on elevators are also moved by hand when elevators are built as a stage prop.

The likelihood of an elevator component being included in a particular scene is remote, and there’s no guarantee that it will happen. The shot might be filmed but when the editors get the tape it’s their decision on whether or not the scene makes it into the movie.

When I go see a movie I look hard and long for elevator scenes and can attest that when I saw Ransom I practically jumped out of my seat at the shot of Mel Gibson looking right at our car station. What I enjoy even more is the fact that this movie airs at least once a year on TV.

Other movies, such as You’ve Got Mail, included a shot of our classic antique hall station which could barely be made out as Meg Ryan ran out of the elevator. But freeze frame it I did and as I paused the shot to see our fixture illuminated I reveled in the fact that the part was made by one of our guys!

We really enjoy seeing our products on the big screen and although there’s no “CJA” marking, you can be sure that if there’s an elevator part shown in a movie or television show there’s a good chance it’s ours. Keep your eyes open while you watch your next movie or favorite TV show and look for those elevator scenes.
